In nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Objectives in line with development matters. Throughout the year we will follow all of the major festivals and celebrations in order to inform our planning but most importantly the themes and learning opportunities will be directed by the learning and interests that we observe from your children as they 'play'. In our nursery we always ask the children what they are learning rather than what are they 'playing'. To find out about our termly curriculum in more detail please follow the link to look at our curriculum maps. Please keep coming back to this page to find out what we have been doing. We will also post any useful information or links that may be of interest to you.

Welcome back to a new term!! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas. Can we take this opportunity to introduce our new member of staff, Mrs Cole, who will be working with us in the afternoon's. She is very excited to be working with the children and having lots of previous experience with working with children we are sure that she is going to be a great benefit to the children's learning.
As well as a new member of staff we also have some new children with us. They seem to have settled really well into the class and are already making friends and getting used to the environment. It doesn't feel as if they are new at all.
Already this week the children have shown us that they have come back to class with an appetite to learn and bags full of imagination and energy. The children were very excited to tell us all about the gifts that they got from Santa and it was amazing to see how confident they have become even though they have been away over the holidays.
With the weather being so cold we have decided to focus on the theme of winter this week, including how ice melts, snow writing, making snowflakes and using shapes to make snowmen. The children have also followed their own interests and some were very intersted in the shoots that are coming up in our planting area. I wonder what they will be??
You will also have noticed that the children are now writing their names into a book. These will be ready on the tables in the morning for your child to find their name and either trace, copy or independently write it.
We are lucky enough to be having Mr Ashby again on a Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon to support the childrens physical abilities. He will be focusing on core stability and taking turns and listening in team games. We will also be borrowing the bikes on a Wednesday morning for the children to build up their spacial awareness and strength in their legs and core.
Wow it seems so much for just a four day week. Next week we will continue to follow the theme of winter and look more closely at the weather types that are linked to winter. We will compare cold and hot weathers and discuss the other seasons.
